OUR SUPPORT
SERVICES |
Occupational Therapy
Small groups
of boys from our Remedial Classes receive group
therapy once a week from our resident
Occupational Therapist. Fine and Gross motor
difficulties and visual motor integration
receive attention during this time. Mastered
visual perceptual skills are essential for the
development of good spelling and listening
skills. Assessments are completed at school with
the input of staff and parents. |
Speech and Language
Therapy
Small groups of boys from
our Remedial Class receive therapy once a week
from our resident Speech and Language Therapist.
Difficulties with language skills, comprehension
tasks, word finding, auditory discrimination,
sequencing, analysis and synthesis, and more,
are dealt with during this time. Assessments are
completed at school with the input of staff and
parents.
|
Private Remedial Lessons
Remedial
tuition is offered by a privately contracted
teacher who tutors the children individually or
in small groups. Assessments are completed at
school with the input from staff and parents.
These lessons do not form part of our Remedial
Unit Programme, but are available for mainstream
learners and for special reinforcement for
learners requiring additional tutoring.
|
Educational Psychologist
Our
privately contracted Educational Psychologist,
is available for full assessment of children
with individual special needs, who have been
identified by the teacher or parent, in order to
address these needs so that the teacher and
parents are assisted in supporting the boys to
reach their potential. |
Counselling Services
Pastoral Care services are provided by the
Pastoral Care team, as a free service in order
to meet the needs of each boy, assisting him to
deal with the many complexities of our modern
day society, which places unrealistic
expectations on a child, especially during
divorce settlements and financial strain.
Through ongoing counselling, assertiveness
skills, conflict resolution skills and anger
management skills are developed, so that a
healthy self-esteem is fostered and insight is
gained into the problem, giving a sense of
greater control of the situation and enablement
to accept responsibility for personal decision
making. |
