Welcome to
Junior Primary
Junior Primary at Merchiston is made up of classes from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Merchiston places a strong emphasis on moral values, which ensures a happy, caring and nurturing educational environment for all. Each child is supported in developing to his full potential, through the encouragement of strengths and interests, both in and out of the classroom. We offer a balanced programme here at Merchiston and encourage boys to be involved in all aspects of school life.
We aim to champion each boy and help him to understand that he has a worthwhile contribution to make to his school and to life in general. We, as Junior Primary staff, are aware of the importance of making education as imaginative and enjoyable as possible.
Some of the highlights of the Junior Primary calendar include:
- Watching the Dusi Canoe Marathon
- Watching many others sports matches, including day/night events
- Our Junior Primary Choir
- Mother’s and Father’s Day Assembly
- Special Days held by each grade
- Foundation Phase Sports Day
- Foundation Phase Gala
The Foundation Phase section of the school, made up of IMPS and Junior Primary, is run separately to the Senior Primary Phase. We have our own assembly every week and the boys have their own playgrounds.
We watch with great pride as our young ‘Merchie Mud Mice’ – as the Foundation Phase boys are fondly known – develop and mature into ‘Merchie Mud Rats,’ ready to take on whatever life may have in store for them.
