Dear Merchiston Parents

Three days after the commencement of WW2, Operation Pied Piper saw tens of thousands of children evacuated from London to the country. Moving children away from the danger was seen by some as an absolute priority. Parents faced an awful dilemma – keep their children at home or send them away. Before the opening salvos of the war, the signs pointed to conflict akin to that of WW1 and with the advancement of technology’, planning and forward-thinking was imperative.

Preparing for the pandemic we are currently engulfed in was just not on anyone’s radar, and the resulting lockdown made planning extremely difficult. It is almost four months since the announcement of the lockdown. From an insular point of view, the Merchiston Family has come a long way, and we are very fortunate that our system has prevailed and our children continue to be educated.
